Melee Combat Basics Beginner
Kenshi combat is not about reflexes. It is about who is standing where, and who outnumbers whom.
Combat is resolved by stats and positioning — manage Attack, Defence, formation and numbers rather than twitch skill.
How Combat Works
Melee combat is resolved automatically through stats — Attack versus Defence, modified by weapons, armour and fatigue. You direct positioning and targets, not individual swings.
Positioning & Numbers
Being surrounded splits your Defence across attackers and is the main cause of defeat. Fight at chokepoints and concentrate your numbers on isolated enemies.
Weapon Choice
Match the weapon to the fight: katanas for unarmoured foes, heavy weapons and hackers for armour, polearms for reach, sidearms for indoors.
Fatigue & Hunger
Tired and hungry characters fight badly. Keep the squad fed and rested before a fight you intend to win.
“Running away is not losing. It is the most reliable survival tool you have.”
