Overview
The Ancient Empire — sometimes the First Empire — was a technologically advanced civilisation that once spanned the world. Its collapse is the central mystery of Kenshi's setting.
What Remains
The Empire left ruins, AI Cores, Skeletons, robotics, advanced weapons and Ancient Science Books. Modern factions cannot reproduce this technology — only recover it.
Theories
Kenshi never hands you a tidy history. Environmental storytelling, ruined sites and scattered books suggest war, the rise of the Skeletons and a catastrophe that broke the world.
Why It Matters
The Empire's fall explains the wasteland — why technology is scavenged, why the Deadlands are dead, and why Skeletons remember a world no one else can.
